The Conservation Fund’s Freshwater Institute has been awarded Runner-Up in the Adobe-TechSoup Show Your Impact Contest 2009 in the Environmental Impact Print/Photo category.
Over the past 3 years, Research Associate Kata Rishel has worked with a local designer and local photographers to create a yearly Rockymarsh Run calendar. The calendar highlights the beautiful places and creatures in our watershed and shares knowledge for the benefit of the residents and protection of the watershed. Calendars have been distributed to local school children, community leaders, businesses, and residents in the watershed. The calendar is part of a broader education and restoration effort.
Water from the Rockymarsh Run watershed, located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia flows into the Potomac River before eventually making its way into the Chesapeake Bay. Working with our partners, including Trout Unlimited, WVDEP Stream Partners, NFWF Targeted Watershed Program, West Virginia University, and the West Virginia Water Research Institute, Freshwater Institute staff are working to protect Rockymarsh Run by restoring trout habitat and improving local water quality.
